My dog Daisy, a black lab mix, is almost two years old. She is always crying to come in or go out at all hours. I don't like to leave her out, especially at night, because of the neighbors; I also don't like being woken up every night to let her out. I have tried to put her bed and food outside with her, but that didn't work. Any advice here?
How do you get a dog to stay outside and not cry or howl all night?
If you are not allowing her in your room, with you, she may feel alone and unprotected. Have you tried letting her stay in your room at night? Has she always done this, or is this a new thing? If this is a new thing and she is going in and out a lot, even during the day, then she may have a bladder infection. This makes a dog feel like it has to urinate, frequently. Under these circumstances, then Daisy will feel like she needs to go potty, and since she doesn't want to have an accident in the house, she will cry at the door. Then, of course, she will want to come back inside. Sometimes there may be something in the house that is bothering a dog - like a high-pitched sound from electrical devices, battery warnings, etc. that a dog will find annoying and try to get away from. But, if she seems like she is squatting each time she goes outside, or having any accidents, she may have an infection. Take her to the vet and have them check her out. Sometimes they can prescribe antibiotic, even if they are not sure, and then you can see if it helps.
Reply:Yeah, do more with her thru the day so she is mentally and physically tired.. Then she'll sleep all night long. There is no reason why a 2 year old dog in good health, wouldn't be able to sleep thru the night.
