By the end of great gatsby, who is daisy more in love with...gatsby, tom, or herself?

Herself. All she ever cares about is protecting herself and her reputation. All she is, is a spoiled rich girl.

By the end of great gatsby, who is daisy more in love with...gatsby, tom, or herself?
i think she lost it. she developed a very wrong notion of loving someone. but fitzgerald blew me away with this one... i love this book.
Reply:None of the above. It's tempting to say ' herself ' but this isn't right either. Very early in the book she knows what people are and there's a glimmer of bravery when she intimates:

" Why are people so ... "

These days nobody says even that. That's how low society is. The word you're looking for isn't ' love '.

Even Nick gets it wrong.

The word you want is ' resignation ' into the human condition, and taking up your position in it. However low and amoral that may be.

Why Gatsby's ideal was bigger than what was actually in front of him. What he'd never be able to live with or settle for.

She became an amorphous, faceless member of her class, and what is usually expected of that class. However vaunted or elegant the veneer.

Of all places to find an absolute truth; Lenny Bruce:

" It's time to grow up and sell out! "

I think in future I'll look up Turgenev.

Oh, yes and thank you. Clicking on the questions I see these days is a barf fest. This is a welcome respite.
Reply:i dont think she knows, she really only cares about herself
Reply:no I think Tom, its clear that eithout him she wouldn't have been half the person she was
Reply:She was more in love with herself than with anyone else. She was willing to leave Tom (because of his cheating) and go with Gatsby, yet she didn't go with him because he didn't have status - she preferred the humiliation of knowing that Tom was cheating on her. She doesn't even care for her child. She didn't care for what happened to Gatsby, or that he was killed because of something she did. All that she cared about was he financial stability, but no one else. Daisy had the inavility to love because she is too full of herself.
Reply:herself
