The Great Gatsby: Should Daisy be Condenmed? Yes/No and Pointers Why?

For all of those read the great gatsby can you please look at this question as a good essay question to answer. Please give me you're insight on what you think about the subject of Daisy being condemned or not.

The Great Gatsby: Should Daisy be Condenmed? Yes/No and Pointers Why?
Daisy condemns herself in the book. She has married a man who says he loves her, but he cheats on her. She believes women are better off not knowing anything at all(the dumb fool comment about her daughter). She finds a man who would love her differently than her husband, but she stays with the man who abuses her because of his wealth. Then she kills a woman, and lets someone else get killed for it. All these things, no matter how much Daisy tries, will haunt her for the rest of her life. She will live a miserable life, never truly being happy because of her choices.
Reply:Daisy is the heart and soul of the Great Gatsby. The whole book is a condemnation of Daisy, her husband and her tennis playing friend. Daisy killed a person was indirectly responsible for Gatsby's death and would have gladly had an affair with Gatsby IF he didn't insist she leave her husband. He describes her life as a future Gatsby wanted, the American dream. But the American dream as defined only by money and wealth and caring nothing for other people had already passed by in history and proven to be morally bankrupt. (It was written during the time of the Industrial Robber Barons). Yet Fitzgerald observes at the end that people chase it faster and faster thinking that they can grasp it, but what they don't realize is that they had already reached it and passed it by. It is so empty they didn't realize it. But here is how Fitzgerald wrote it:

"And as I sat there brooding on the old, unknown world, I thought of Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock. He had come a long way to this blue lawn and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it. He did not

know that it was already behind him, somewhere back in that vast obscurity beyond the city, where the dark fields of the republic rolled on under the night.

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And one fine morning----So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Reply:As much as I wanted to, I could never dislike the character of Daisy. I don't know if Fitzgerald wants you to either. She doesn't seem to be aware of anything that she does. She doesn't seem to understand how horribly her actions affect everyone around her.

There's an important line in the book. I can't think of the exact quote. It's toward the ending. The gist of it is that Nick says that all these people weren't really bad people, they were just careless. That's what Daisy is. She's careless.

In a case where Daisy would be condemned, she would plead ignorance. It's not her fault for how she acts, but it's the fault of how American society has shaped her. This book isn't a criticism of the individual people, but of the New York lifestyle. The New York lifestyle corrupted Daisy.

She shouldn't be condemned. She should be saved.
Reply:Of course she should be condemned. She killed a woman and caused an innocent man's death and walked away without even a backward glance. She is a despiciable person. Pax - C

Honeybee and daisy mutual relationship?

is there a mutual relationship?

if not, does the honeybee have a mutual relationship with another flower? how have they evolved together over time?

websites / writing / why?

Honeybee and daisy mutual relationship?
Have you noticed some honey containers say clover honey, buckwheat honey, citrus blossom honey? I personally have never seen any labeled citrus blossom or daisy. We have fields of daisies yet no daisy honey on the market... hmmm does this suggest that daisies do not contribute much to honey? In our area, if the bees happen to be visiting some daisies, they will also be visiting a lot of buckwheat or clover fields.

The big volume of honey is not daisy around here.

We get some mustard or rapeseed honey, and the beekeepers leave that in the hive to feed the bees over winter.

To look after bees that pollinate fruit orchards farmers depend mostly on clover fields. Clover will have three crops of flowers per summer, and with judicious cutting schedules we can have the bees in clover blossoms all summer long, whereas they may be getting fruit tree nectar for less than a month.

Bees do have a mutual relationship with any plant species that needs a bee to spread its pollen. The flower gives the bee a bribe of honey to go from flower to flower distributing pollen.

It only grows where someone has died. If one of your Sims dies, you mourn on the grave and it will grow out of their grave.

Who is Daisy's ex from rock of love 2 with Bret Michals?

i was watching the show and i am confused! Who is Daisy and who is her ex?!

Who is Daisy's ex from rock of love 2 with Bret Michals?
Diasy's ex is Charles Edward front man and brains behind Seraphim Shock. I've been following them, hell.. since like 1999. Very hard to describe their sound, they swing across the board from goth to rockabilly sounding.. with a deffinate rock and roll core. Their second album "Halloween, Sex, and Vegas" about sums up what their sound is.. with a hefty dollop of satan thrown in. Daisy never really sang for the band. She played bass.. some rythem guitar, and did a small amount of intro and chorus vocals. Most of her singing i'm guessing is from her solo project, which tbh, i've not heard much of, but she sounds a lot better than she did on the show.

Charles is an awsome awsome guy, and in my opinion, one of the best voices in music. I'd also have to say he's the nicest person i've ever met, soft spoken off stage (especially considering how huge and ripped he is, lol) full of rock on stage. He's not big on spilling private life into public, which I'm sure is why they don't show him talk much.

Yeah, He and Daisy lived together.. they were together on and off for like 3 years and SHARED A LEASE. a) not that easy to just break a lease. b) not everybody can afford to just pack up and move whenever they want to.

They are still great friends and had been broken up long before RoL2.
Reply:He's the one with the emo black hair wearing the white tank top.

He's hot from a certain angle but from other angles he looks like a big ugly bear lol
Reply:daisy is really ugly
Reply:Daisy is just one of the girls competing to be Bret's "Rock of Love." Charles is her ex, apparently he and Daisy still live together though. I guess they were / are bandmates too. Daisy apparently is the singer in a band but when she had to sing something a couple episodes ago, she really sucked. THat's all I know about that!
Reply:he's in a bad, same band as her,but I dont which. He looked familiar to me to.

What do you think of Daisy for a baby girl name?

Very sweet!!!!

My grandmother's name is Daisy and I think it's beautiful. My mum wanted a girl called Daisy-May (she didn't get her way, I was called Sarah). It's fab because it's great when she's young and won't age (my grandmother's 82 ish and she doesn't sound like a toddler). I grew up with a Daisy-Mae at school and her name never sounded out of place.

There are also so many ways to spell it...

Reply:Adorable. The only caveat for me is that it's a bit informal as a given name. Not that it IS informal (not sure how else to word it LOL). Just that I prefer names with options, such as Lillian or Lillias with Lily as a nickname, to use a similar example.

I do adore Daisy, however. I'd just be sure to give her a more "mature" middle name in case she ever wanted the choice. Daisy Eleanor, for instance, might one day choose to use D. Eleanor, Eleanor, Nora or even Della for professional purposes -- still remaining simply "Daisy" to her close family and friends. Hopefully that makes sense. :)

Reply:Personally, I think it's a little cutesy sounding. I can't imagine Dr. Daisy Smith, or Daisy Jones, Esq. I love the idea of naming a girl Margaret and using Daisy as a nickname. It gives you the option of calling her an adorable nickname, and yet giving her a dignified adult name.
Reply:i love that name! it is so cute

Reply:moo ;-)
Reply:definitely not, that is a pet's name
Reply:I am not that keen to be honest, have you thought about making that the second but known name and giving the baby a proper name such as Samantha, Suzanne, Gabriella etc.

The great gatsby chapter 8: what was the basis of daisy's decision to marry tom?

~Before he left for the war, Daisy promised to wait for him; the two then slept together, as though to seal their pact. Of course, Daisy did not wait; she married Tom, who was her social equal and the choice of her parents.

~Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby until the war ended. What Gatsby has not bargained for was Daisy's youth and her need for love and the attention of society. She was too frivolous and insecure to stay alone for long, and soon began going out to parties and dances. At one of them, she met Tom Buchanan, who seemed safe and strong. She loved Jay, but knew nothing about him-nothing about his past or his practical plans for the future. And he wasn't there. So she married Tom.

In the novel "THe Great Gatsby" why did Daisy run down Myrtle and did not stop?

She's drunk from their little party at the Plaza Hotel, she doesn't know how to drive, and she has absolutely no regard for anyone but herself. She callously leaves Gatsby to clean up her mess - knowing full well he will. Everybody always takes the blame for Daisy. Daisy is a totally irresponsible, selfish *****. Pax - C

I think the alternative was to run into an oncoming car.

As to why she didn't stop, there wasn't much she could do, and she didn't want to be involved. It was someone else's problem.

i thought gatsby casue he loved her sooo much, even though it was kinda pathetic

i hated tom, he didnt deserve anyone
Reply:I think Gatsby went to great lengths to get her to notice him. He spent mass amounts of money just in hope that she'd come to him one day. Tom seemed very much infatuated with money and possesions and towards the beginning I was rooting for her and Gatsby to rekindle their flame (which they did briefly). Towards the end I realized that Daisy wanted the same as Tom. She went back to Tom as if nothing ever happened between her and Gatsby without even a thought. Tom and Daisy are both made for each other. They seem to have no compassion for others' feelings. Nick never wanted Daisy as more than a cousin though. =] x

Daisy in The Great Gatsby, what symbol (object) best represents her character?

from the book The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald

Daisy in The Great Gatsby, what symbol (object) best represents her character?
A flower. In the novel, Fitzgerald writes of Daisy "Daisy suprised me by opening up... in a flower-like way".

Her namesake says it all. She is like a flower, delicate, beautiful, and can easily wither.
Reply:The green light. Her dock light is the green light, and green represents her character. She's so greedy, and she's also immature. She doesn't stand up for her own actions at all throughout the entire book. She leaves them for other people to clean up. She values money and wealth above all else.

Where does the saying whoopsie daisy come from?

Alas, as with many etymologies, there's a lot of uncertainty. Terms such as "up-a-daisy" dates to the early 1700s, as an encouragement to a child who has fallen to stand up, or as an exclamation upon lifting a child. It's basically a nonsense phrase, presumably intended to amuse the little ones. Variants include "upsi-daisy" or "upsy-daisy" from the 1860s as well as "upsa-daisy" . . . any of them with or without hyphens.

The first use of "whoops-a-daisy" per se is around 1925, in a New Yorker cartoon. It's an expression of surprise or dismay, specifically upon discovering one's own error. The modern-day equivalent would be "D'oh!", I'm afraid, which is much less expressive. The term was shortened to "whoops" by 1937, and appears in that form in a letter by Ezra Pound, no less. One assumes that it was related to the expression "to whoop," as in giving "whoops of joy." That usage goes back to the early 1600s.

Where does the saying whoopsie daisy come from?
It's derived from "up-a-daisy." I answered this question once before, but I can't find the place in the archives. The "up" in "up-a-daisy" (said when lifting a child) means up, and the "daisy" is the same "daisy" as in "lackadaisy." "Lackadaisy" is an extended form of "lack-a-day" (obsolete or archaic), from "Alack-a-day!"--an exclamation originally meaning "Shame or reproach to the day" or "Woe worth the day." "Alack" probably comes from "ah" (= Ah!) plus "lack" (= failure, fault, reproach, disgrace, shame). All this information comes from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Ideas for gerber daisy wedding centerpieces?

My wedding colors are bright pink, orange, and yellow. We are having a destination wedding (alone) and coming back for our reception. We will serve bbq at the reception, have a cotton candy machine, a topsy turvy wedding cake, and our wedding favors are going to be homemade jams with our picture and wedding date on them. I can envision everything BUT the centerpieces.

Ideas for gerber daisy wedding centerpieces?
to keep with the "bbq/picnic/downhome" theme set by the bbq and homemade jams (Too cute!), go to your local garden store -or you may even be able to find them in a discount/dollar store - and look for the "spouted" watering cans in tin, copper, brass...whatever color would best compliment the theme. You could even mix up the metals. Put fresh cut daisies in them in a loose, natural "wild-just picked" fashion. You can adorn the watering can by tying a pretty ribbon -that also compliments your decor- around the middle of it. You can also lay/prop a cute little planters spade and some gardening gloves along either side of the can.

Another idea I've seen done for spring/summer weddings in your theme is to use a clear container (whether it be a vase, mixed jars...whatever container you'd like to use, mix em up for extra variety!) and you fill the jar with FROZEN PEAS and some water. I know Frozen Peas sounds weird, but they look SOOOO pretty w/the daisies and they add a nice touch of garden green.

For something a little more elegant: You could also do water bowls. Go to the "pet" section of your local wal mart or you may even find them in a craft store, and get the large/flatter round clear glass fish/basin bowls. Fill it w/water and float some floating candles and daisy flower heads in it.

JUST HAVE FUN!!!!
Reply:i just have a suggestion depending on when your wedding is make sure those flowers are in season because my friend was getting married in july and she couldn't get those they weren't in season so she had to switch the type of flower
Reply:just a suggestion that we used at our wedding...you can get small vases (kinda like a short round ball bowl type thing) and put some stones in the bottom with water in there...floater candles...and put your daisies around the base of the vases...very simple...very pretty...and you can get everything at Wal-Mart so it won't cost you a whole lot...adds a nice little accent to all your tables...good luck!!!
Reply:Since your wedding will be a colorful and fun one, then you can have a really simple flower decor.Just get a bunch of gerberas(mix colors) and put them in a large clear glass vase. You can add bear grass for elegance or even a few long curly twigs.

Check this out for ideas:-

Good luck!
Reply:Paint terra cotta planters white and put the gerberas in the pot in some wet florist's oasis foam, and cover where the stems go in with some Spanish moss (available at craft stores). Alternatives to the moss would be shredded crinkled paper in your colors or, believe it or not, plastic Easter grass might even do in a pinch.

Insert some colorful, swirly lollipops into the foam among the flowers to continue your fun and outdoorsy theme, and tie a ribbon with your colors around the planter. A bonus is that you could easily add a tag to each lollipop and have guests each take one home as a souvenir of your reception.

Best wishes and congratulations!
Reply:Sounds lovely, and lots of fun! I've been looking at quite a few gerbera centerpieces lately for ideas. Things I've seen done:

* Tall, narrow glass vases with gerberas, a few other flowers, and lots of large green leaves (you could bring in an exotic look referencing the destination with tropical-looking leaves).

* Shorter, narrow vase with a large number of gerberas (the example I photographed happens to be pink, orange, and yellow) gathered into a very full bouquet, with bits of greenery.

* Gerbera heads floating in bowls of water.

* Short, square, glass vase with about a dozen gerberas (looks sort of like the flowers are in a ball on top of a glass cube); the stems are coiled inside sort of randomly, so that you can see them.

* Round glass vase, with a hole at the top and holes spaced around the vase for inserting flowers.

I personally prefer a lot of greenery with gerberas - their color is usually so concentrated that they really seem to pop when a few are used with lots of green.
Reply:Put them in clear mason jars with some water.

Maybe tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar to match ur wedding colors?
Reply:http://www.flowersbyanne.com/cgi-bin/lis...

but put them in mason jars or the jars you made the jams in.
Reply:I highly recommend using ostrich feather plumes (online vendors include "Mother Pluckers", SA Feathers, just to name a couple). Mix pink, yellow and orange ostrich feathers with your gerberas for a great look and wonderful texture. We did this for a big party last year and I'm currently at an international event planners' expo in L.A. in which they'r showing ostrich feathers like crazy in floral design. It's HUGE for style right now. You'll love the look!
Reply:Gerbers do come in orange, pink, and yellow. Sounds like the perfect flowers. Mix with bear grass in a clear glass vase, fun yet elegant. Congratulations on your marriage!

How to make an insecticide out of daisy flower?

Not the flower, but the stem and roots.

Crush them into a fine paste and strain the liquid off. This is an effective insect repellant.

Tomato leaves work better and are far more effective to use as a pesticide though.

How to make an insecticide out of daisy flower?
Just use dish detergent and water

In the Great Gatsby, Mr. Gatsby describes Daisy as, "her voice is filled with money".?

What do you think he means by that?

In the Great Gatsby, Mr. Gatsby describes Daisy as, "her voice is filled with money".?
I'd say that it literally means she has the cultivated, sophisticated accent of the very wealthy.

But more than that, it's a metaphor meant by the author to convey an impression of "richness" and "desirability" upon the reader.

Help!! Finding a Daisy Shower Curtain & Accessories?

This helped me soo much when I last asked for help on finding the exact bedsheets I was looking for, so here I am again! Im looking for a daisy shower curtain. A classic one, white/yellow daisies. All I can find are retro, crazy colored ones. And thats not the route Id like to go. Even the "normal" colored daisy accessories are hard to find! Any suggestions??

Reply:I didn't think this would be as hard as it was to find so might I suggest that you purchase a white shower curtain and either hot glue or stitch silk daisies (from the floral dept) onto the shower curtain. You can do the same for matching towels. Stitch some daisies onto a piece of color coordinating grosgrain ribbon then sew it (ribbon with daisies) onto the bottom half of a towel. This will embellish a towel set with very little work. Best of Luck.

It would seem that pro war supporters miss the irony of it all..

Why do we say "oops a daisy" and not the name of any other flower?

Actually this phrase has been greatly corrupted over the years. The original phrase came from the early 1700s as "up a day". It was then, as it is today, a nonsensical expression of the same meaning.

By the mid 1800s the day part was pretty much changed to daisy as the expression "up a daisy" and then to its various versions today "oops a daisy" "upsa-daisy" "upsy-daisy".....

Why do we say "oops a daisy" and not the name of any other flower?
Because if you are doing landscaping and you are pulling out dandilions you may pull out a daisy. So you say oops a daisy. If you believe that...you are stupid.
Reply:Because oops a chrysanthemum doesn't have the same ring to it.
Reply:Well oops a rose sounds stupid.lol
Reply:there`s a song that goes `pick me up buttercup`.

are the sayings related .lol
Reply:Maybe it was an old saying that started in the olden days when people would walk through a field and try not to step on the daisies....and if they did they would say, "oops a daisy!"....because daisies were everywhere and they didn't know the names of the other flowers...daisy was like a generic name for "flower"...and daisies grow out in the open where they might get stepped on...that is the reason why people say "oops a daisy!"
Reply:it just sounds right
Reply:its a bit of a play on words instead of saying ''oops a day'' people say oops a daisy, daisy is the closest to day.
Reply:"Ooops a Geranium

Compare and contrast gatsby and daisy's american dream in great gatsby?

Compare and contrast gatsby and daisy's american dream in great gatsby?
Myrtle's American Dream is to have a husband that is rich and powerful and can give her the love and support that George (her current husband) can't give her.

Daisy's American Dream is that she wants to be safe and she is really the type of person to "go to the side of whatever team is winning."
Reply:That's a great question. Your teacher is doing a good job. Now do your job and read the book and answer the question.

In the Great Gatsby what is the american dream of tom, daisy, myrtle, mr.wilson and other minor characters?

how come I have a feeling that you are asking this for a school report?

In the Great Gatsby what is the american dream of tom, daisy, myrtle, mr.wilson and other minor characters?
The American Dream is pretty much being popular, having the woman of your dreams, and being rich.

That's what Gatsby wanted, he had the money, had the fame, but didnt have Daisy.

I guess each have their own dreams, but since the book is about Gatsby thats what its about.
Reply:Actually all of these answers are correct but it depends upon how you read the novel. It can be read as homoerotic, Marxist, psychoanalytic etc. Gatsby longs for the one thing he does not have, Daisy. Ultimately all the characters want to have it all which is the american dream. Don't neglect the symbolism of Dr. Eckelberg's eyes watching over everything the characters do and the comparison of east and west egg as it relates to eastern and western us in the twenties, as well as old and new money

What had Gatsby turned Daisy into in his own mind?

Gatsby had turned Daisy into his idea of a perfect woman,

where she had no flaws or problems.

hope that helps :)

Also, Gatsby was truly in love with Daisy right before he went to war. After 5 years had passed, Gatsby had this image in his own mind that Daisy was absolutely perfect and flawless. But when Gatsby met Daisy again at Nick's house, he was still was in love with her but she was not as perfect and flawless as he had made her out to be.

Reply:Gatsby had turned Daisy into an idealized creature he held on a pedestal. Probably it was because she was initially unattainable for him in his original circumstances. He was blind to the fact that she was selfish, shallow and vacuous in thinking.

I want a daisy theme in my spare room and am having a hard time finding things with daisy patterns on them?

Try painting the walls a solid butter yellow then trim out with white. Think of what the daisy looks like and use the colors of it in your room. I know daisies are black and white but I think black would be to harsh. Buy a bed spread with a daisy print and just keep adding to the decor. Also get some silk daisies and arrange them around the room. Everything will come together. Hope I helped.

Reply:unless you stumble upon a whole mess of daisy influenced items any ime soon here are some ideas.

find a white cylndrical shaped lamp shade and with silk daisy flowers decorat the edges. you can also use yellow and black ribbons in various sizes to wrap the shade. think bumble bee patterns for stripes.

get white or clear curtans and a daisly stamp from a craft store. stamp daisys all over the curtians. Or if you find ones that have little pockets inthem you can add silk daisys in every pocket. sew together yellow and black ribbons or different sized fabric scraps( try wal-marts fabric section they sell scraps off of the bolts when they are finished with them) and make tie backs As for holders for these tie backs and curtains try Michaels or hobby lobby in the wood sections. They may have a wooden unfinished daisy that you can attach to dowel rods ov different lengths to make a curtian rod and curtian /tieback holders.

As for bedding you can get solid color comforters, sheets, bed skirts and pillows to mix and match.

Just have fun with it!

White woody aster, or heath aster.

AMC: What ever happened to Daisy Cortlandt?

I used to love the shows that centered around the Cortlandt family. Seems like Cliff and Nina finally got things back together and moved away, and we don't see much out of Palmer anymore, but does anyone remember what happened to Daisy? Did she marry someone or move overseas or what? Oh how I wish they'd bring the Cortlandts back and take the focus off of the scream queen, Kendall!

AMC: What ever happened to Daisy Cortlandt?
Daisy went back to the French Riviera to live with her rich lover. Cliff %26amp; Nina live in Chicago.
Reply:Since when did Daisy move over seas??? I thought she got lost in a plane crash and was pregnant with a baby girl??? Where is she now I had to go back to work and havent watched it in a year Ugh I need updates now! All 3 of my kids names are on there Laura (Brooke's daughter that died) and then of course Brooke, and then Brandon Montgomery after Jackson Montgomery....
Reply:I saw Palmer on the show about a month ago, socking it to Adam. It was when Crystal and Adam were divorcing. I think Daisy left, I think that she moved overseas. You can certainly tell that age is creeping up on the man that plays Palmer
Reply:It seems Daisy moved to Europe or something. I wish Palmer and Opal would get back together they were so funny together.
Reply:From what I remember Daisy went back overseas....she might of gotten married.... I loved the show back then. I am SO with you about anorexic Kendall...she is ruining the show for me! Lately a lot of them are getting on my nerves! Like Ryan, Ava, Jonathon, Annie, the list goes on! I loved Palmer and Opal, too. Have you seen the really old footage of the guy who plays Palmer back when he did broadway and movies, too, I think...he was quite the dancer/performer!

Can you daisy chain two hard drives, a CD drive and a DVD drive off of a single cable?

if so please provide a link to where i can buy such a cable

Can you daisy chain two hard drives, a CD drive and a DVD drive off of a single cable?
You can, but you really wouldnt want to. Running four devices off of a single ATA slot will slow things down terribly. I would recoomend 2 devices on one channel, at MOST. Even better if you can put each device on its own channel.
Reply:I think this is possible using SCSI, this however is quite an old technology. You also need a SCSI controller to do this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI
Reply:Yes. You'll need to check the configuration settings and setup both drives to CS (Cable Select), or else setup one of the drives as master and one as slave. Google "ide cable" to see lots of cables. Select one with two 40-pin connectors and 80 data wires, as in the link below. Good luck...

Whats the difference between a wild daisy and a 'domesticated' daisy?

they really dont look alike

Whats the difference between a wild daisy and a 'domesticated' daisy?
domesticated flowers are genetic variations of wildflowers that have been selected for certain flower appearance or disease resistance. They have also been cross-pollinated with other selected genetic variants. So if you would compare the DNA of wild daisy and domesticated daisy you would see only a few differences out of tens of thousands of genes.

Reply:Out of all the bfs that came on the show last night, the hottest bfs to me were Jessica's and Daisy's men. Jessica's ex put me in the mind of a younger Mark Wahlberg. Daisy's ex is cute and has an unique look to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some fame from that episode!

How is Daisy Buchanan a faery’s child?

I don't even understand this question or the concept of 'faery'...please help! I don't care if you explain to me what a 'faery' is or if you just give me the answer.

How is Daisy Buchanan a faery’s child? (The Great Gatsby)?
Daisy was a nice but useless person, a "flower" (nice look, nice sense, helpless) and that was all. She was living in her own perfect little world.

She was the one who said:

"Rich girls don't marry poor boys!"
Reply:She was fay -- out of this world -- useless -- an ornament -- an airy piece of fanfastic nonsense -- at the bottom of the garden -- a lorelei steering the lives of men on to the rocks -- jail bait -- a faery's child.
Reply:She wasn't literally a faerie's child. It's a form of description. They're simply saying that she was so beautiful and delicate that she was a faeries child. That is to say, she posses the beauty, soft-spokenness, reserve and air of a faerie. In short, they're saying she's a hottie with a booty for miles.

The Great Gatsby Novel: Why does Daisy describe your youth as a "white girlhood"?

Daisy describes her life as a white girlhood because she knows that other girls, girls of color more specifically, had very different childhoods. While she was learning to play the piano and having a comming out ball, other girls that were her same age were already working and having children. She may be a fool but Daisy was never quite ignorant when it came to the lifestyle she had...

Will a daisy red ryder bb gun kill a chipmunk with a body shot?

if it wont kill it with a body shot how about a head shot

Will a daisy red ryder bb gun kill a chipmunk with a body shot?
Not a chance, I'd say. Those things can't break the skin of anything, as far as I'm concerned. I had a frog problem and dug my old bb rifle out of the attic to try and dish out some population control. After about half an hour, I was totally convinced that any memories I'd had of this rifle breaking anything were probably exaggerated. I remember trying to break bottles with it as a kid, and it never even chipped them.

A pellet rifle is what people would use in the city to take care of small pest rodents. You can get rid of most rats and squirrels with a decent one, and there is really no noise problem. They will put out a window, or an eye, so you should be a little more careful about where you are aiming. With a decent rifle and a good shot, you won't have to shoot a pest several times in order to finish it off.

If pellet rifles are too expensive for you, or dangerous, or for whatever reason unavailable, try a slingshot. You can get a powerful slingshot at just about any sporting goods store, and most places also sell metal pellets for hunting with them. You could pretty easily deal with a chipmunk using this sort of shot in a new slingshot, but for godsake don't shoot your buddies with it.
Reply:This may sound bad but here at home I do get rid of chipmunks and red squirrels, they have done alot of wireing damage and even started a fire in the walls by shorting out some wires. in this case I do get rid of them. I don't go out of my way to shoot them, only when need be. if you need to get rid of them , dont make them suffer use some thing with more power than a single pump BB gun, my gun i can put 10 pumps in it and then shoot, and i like pellets for this,,,,,,

Dont just shoot a animal just because, I know a responsible hunter should keep in mind the checks and balances of a game animal ......And yes a head shot is the best one to take,

I read some answers and saw one that bugged me, who in there right mind would have a BB gun war ? As a part time medic, Ive seen some rather sad outcomes of just such a thing.
Reply:I have killed many a chipmunk as a nuisance animal in my gardens.

A red ryder bb gun WILL kill a chipmunk with a head shot. The pellet is usually not moving fast enough to effectively penetrate the body and do enough damage for a confirmed kill.

Upgrade your pellet gun- try and make a humane kill
Reply:I seriously doubt it, we used to have bb gun fights when we were kids and the daisy's would barely get under your first layer of skin let alone penetrate. If you're doing this for fun, knock it off. If there is a legitimate pest problem there are better ways to deal with chipmunks, squirrels, etc.

If you're wanting to shoot at something for fun get into paintball where people fire back. I wish we had those when we were kids, we probably wouldn't have been having bb gun and bottle rocket fights. Geez we were stupid. LOL
Reply:no.......and chipmunks are not a game animal and you should not kill them.........people like you give responsible hunters a bad name

well since you added details it's now a different story......if your going to kill them as pests use something stronger than a Red Ryder
Reply:save alittle more for a stronger one... I use a CO2 powered pellet rifle and it takes squirrels and pigeons out easily in one shot... as soon as it hits them you see a "mist" and then they drop... usually they die instantly so it is no pain...
Reply:I would recommend a cat. I had a cat that loved catching chipmunks. We put a bell on her, but it didn't help. She nearly wiped out a thriving population in 5 months. I guess she would have gotten them all, but we moved away.
Reply:You'll put your eye out!

How good are Daisy Rock guitars?

i thinking of getting a daisy rock the daisy elite but i dont know how it sounds

How good are Daisy Rock guitars?
They are definitely not the best sounding guitar out there for that price. That company is depending on the look of the instrument to sell it, and many gals fall victim to it. Some of them are very cute, but they are beginner guitars that you will grow out of fast. Try to get to a music store in your area and play one, you will see for yourself. Your money could be better spent on a better playing guitar that is a little less cute. Trust me, I completely understand the appeal of a girly guitar, I'm a sucker for sparkly myself, but they are just not very good guitars.
Reply:Honestly, they aren't good. You can get way better quality with something like a Fender or a Gibson. They're more expensive, but they'll last longer and the tone gets better with age.
Reply:their pretty good for the price..
Reply:not very good
Reply:I've never hear of them. Fender, Gipson, Yamaha, Ibanez, Carvin (buy Carvin direct at wholesale prices) are some name brands to name a few. I'd stick with those.

Look up Guitar Player magazine and read some reviews before you buy. A good guitar will keep it's value. A bad guitar makes better firewood.

Luck to ya!
Reply:Cute but NOT good...don't waste ur money! Def go with sumthing like a Fender Strat.
Reply:I dunno...just because you're a girl doesn't mean you need to have a "girl" guitar. How serious are you? If you're good, or want to be good or reasonably serious and not just look cute playing a guitar, I'd get a decent guitar like an American made Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster. They have small necks for smaller female hands. And they do make guitars that come in nice blues and greens and feminine colors. If you're younger, then maybe you just need a 1st guitar. they are a good price, so it might be a good starter guitar. Some places will let you buy the guitar and try it out for a month and if you don't like it, you can take it/send it back.

this website reviewed Daisy Rock guitars.

Reply:not the best. but they're cute!

the good thing about them is their made for people with smaller hands, but you can probably find one that size that will give you better sound quality, which in the end, is more important than how cute it looks!

Will my gerber daisy bloom again next year if I take care of it?

If live in southern California, maybe you could put it outside

Otherwise, to keep it alive indoors, you would need VERY bright lights. I find the lightbulbs designed for people who are sensitive to light levels in the winter and fabulous for my plants. They imitate natural light. Any bulb like that would be suitable

Plants indoors have low light (from a plants point of view) and plants that can survive low light just fine, may none the less not bloom, because bloom requires very bright light.

What is daisy chain (non-sexual meaning)?

English is not my native language, but i need 2 understand what is daisy chain regarding bags, to be more exact i have such description of the bag:

new daisy chain webbing eases the chore of strapping the duffel to the boat.

Explain please what is it... possible with pictures.

What is daisy chain (non-sexual meaning)?
For strapping items to boats, use daisy chain straps. These are two straps sewn together at spaced increments down the length of the straps. See pictures for better visual.

Reply:Honey! I know only 1 Daisy Chain. that's when You pick the Daisy flower when it's fully open. make a tiny cut in the stem of each and threadthe stem of another Daisy through right up to the flower. You do this until you have a long chain of them. Enough to make a head crown or necklace.

A Daisy bag is a tote bag, or a bag with a daisy pattern. A fashion item.

They are 2 different things entirely..

I hope that helps. Good Luck with your english.

In the great gatsby, what makes Tom and Daisy run away?

They're scared. Tom already makes her run away with him because he doesn't want Gatsby to take her away. They are so into their own money that they just want to be involved with themselves. They tease others, but deep down they love each other and their money. “Her voice is full of money,” [Gatsby] said suddenly.

Oopsy-daisy, I need a Halloween costume after all!?

I wasn't planning om going to any Halloween parties but just got an invite to one. The clock is ticking (I haven't finished my son's costume yet!) but I'd like to do something clever, original, cheap, and mostly handmade (not something straight off the rack at a costume store) that can come together quickly. Wow, how's that for a tall order? If it's any help, I'm female, in my 30's, short, thin, with dark hair cut in a bob. Thanks in advance, and happy Halloween!

Oopsy-daisy, I need a Halloween costume after all!?
High heels {black} with a little black or red dress, big red lips and a little of pale body powder and I'd go as Betty Boop. Booboobeedoop! Or you can dress in a pair of jeans, a plaid shirt, a pair of workboots, slick your hair back and you can be Paul Bunions[sp.] younger sister.

What ever happened to the band Daisy Chainsaw?

They had one spectacular album in the 90's and it was over and out. What ever happened with them and does anyone else here remember them?

What ever happened to the band Daisy Chainsaw?
I remember them, although I haven't thought about them for years. The first time I ever heard about them, I saw a video on Beavis and Butthead, I remember Beavis saying, Oh god that chick's eye is bleeding, somebody needs to help her. It prompted me to check out the band. From my understanding they broke up in 95, the singer is now in a band called QueenAdreena. That's all I know.

Pardon me my name is Daisy Atkins and I'm from London, what does the middle finger symbol mean?

I;ve come on holiday from London and ive noticed some very nice young people using the middle finger and smiling at me...What does this mean?is this a way of saying hello in your country? Thank you ever so much for asnswering.

Pardon me my name is Daisy Atkins and I'm from London, what does the middle finger symbol mean?
In America it means that you love everyone and wish them well, so when you come to America, make sure you do it to EVERYONE, if not you will be considered rude.

OOOOOOOH I'm just kidding, hehe, but I don't know what it means in other countries but do NOT do it in America, it means F*** YOU. Not good!!! :)
Reply:It means USA is Number One !
Reply:Ahh the wonderful youth of america... it's so nice to see them welcome foreigners by telling them they are #1. Welcome to America.
Reply:It actually has it's origins in England. Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore [soldiers would] be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous weapon was made of the native English yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew." Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew!"

Over the years some "folk etymologies" have grown up around this symbolic gesture. Since "pluck yew" is rather difficult to say, like "pheasant mother plucker," which is who you had to go to for the feathers used on the arrows for the longbow, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative "f," and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger salute are mistakenly thought to have something to do with an intimate encounter. It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows that the gesture is known as "giving the bird."
Reply:My Mom is from England, one day I seen her,a smile on her face, giving the finger to the local hoodlums because they flipped her the bird. I asked whats up, she said they gave me the V for Victory, I was just giving it back.If I told her what it meant I'da got smacked so I wrote it down."Mom it means(**** you) not a good thing" SMACK!
Reply:Pay little attention to most of everyones' comment,.........they're being very mean to you!!!!

The middle finger straight up is a very vulgar expression, and it is NOT nice AT all!!!!!!

Do NOT do it back to them, just turn your head and ignore them!!!!! Eventually, you'll meet some genuine folks who don't 'speak' in that manner!
Reply:It means "You're number 1."
Reply:Since the middle finger is the longest of the hand, symbolizing the penis...you can guess the rest.

You must have been staring at them or looking at them too long...and they got annoyed of it.
Reply:it means f**k you. they are nasty people.
Reply:Means the one and only idiot standing..feel sorry for him and salute him back..
Reply:What the raised middle finger actually states is their emotional age.

Don't let a few idiots in the states here make you think we're all a bunch of fools.

Enjoy your visit and welcome!!!
Reply:I think all of you guys who are replying to this answer is wrong or at least the ones being rude. Daisy those young American that you thought were nice were not so nice they were saying f*ck you to you

and I apologies for their stupidity and I hope you enjoyed your stay when you were here.
Reply:It has something to do with plucking chickens but it's rarely used as an expression of anything other than hatred.
Reply:ahh....a european asking what America's bird means...priceless.

Here's a spunky response, in france what does it mean to make the okay symbol? I'm sure you know what it is, the thumb and first finger meet like a circle and the other three fingers ont he hand spread out.

It's basically the same thing, same idea in mind.

When the crude and crass stereotypical bronx newyorker grabs their crotch and thrusts their hips, that is another symbol of basically the same thing.

In all essence, it's a rude gesture that idiots do when they are trying to show off. Basically offering you something of theirs to nurse off of.

I'm sorry you were witness to our ignorant crowd, there seems to be so many of them nowdays. Do not let anyone fool you and lead you to believe it means you are number one.
Reply:It means the same thing it does in England. I lived there, and the middle finger was not absent. On yer bike!
Reply:no stupid, it means kiss my ***, or **** you *****.
Reply:i am sorry but that symbol means f u c k you dont report me that is what it really means
Reply:Sorry to say this Daisy you sound like a nice girl, but when they show you this finger that

means that they want you to sit on it and

rotate
Reply:The same thing as when you over there, put your pointer finger and middle finger up at the same time.... FX off So smile back at them and lick in between your two fingers they will stop real quick!
Reply:Oh my...they've just insulted you. It's like using the word "bloody." It means f u c k you. Next time they do that, do it back to them.
Reply:Pluck Yew
Reply:Im not sure which country you was visiting, but no not here its dont mean anything polite it stands for "Fu*k you" . The people were flipping you off they was not saying hello.
Reply:You're not funny.
Reply:Smart enough to travel? Lookie here, Sister - if you are trying a one-woman crusade to take the 'sting' out of a very rude and not exclusively American hand gesture you are wasting your time.

I must say you do it well, though. Marche on! Cheerio.
Reply:its not nice at all its a way of saying f u ck u. without really saying it.
Reply:Daisy, daisy , daisy perhaps you should put your glasses on. You are probably just seeing people hailing a cab. Have a nice cup of tea, call the queen and take a british airlines plane home.
Reply:It means that they were trying to reach out to you. Of all of the fingers in a human hand that is the longest one you know.
Reply:It means add one sharp to the key the musicians are use to playing that tune in. :-)
Reply:it means.. it must be time for tea.
Reply:You're quite the comedienne. Do you do stand?
Reply:Har har, truly brilliant.

Daisy

When does puberty usually kick in? My daughter is 10 and innocent as a daisy.?

I tried to tell her about periods the other day and she didn't have a clue what I meant even though she is very intelligent. I was 12. I noticed at her birthday a couple of girls smelling of BO which is a sign. So it is around. What should I do?

When does puberty usually kick in? My daughter is 10 and innocent as a daisy.?
Could be that your ignorance is innocent as a daisy?
Reply:Usually around 12-13. but some people start a little later.
Reply:around 13-16.
Reply:Well think yourself ucky she hasn't turned into an adolescent yet!

It could happen anytime between now and 16 and still be normal
Reply:Depends, if she is short and chubby it could be anytime now - if she is tall and skinny could take until 14-15.

Once the other girls in her class start on periods she won't be so innocent.
Reply:My best friend who is spanish got her rag at 7!!!
Reply:i got my period at 10, to be honest maybe she is sheltered no offense...it is known that more kids if they are educated in sex and what not feel more comfortable with theirselves and therefore get to exploring their bodies more comfortably and their periods, and puberty comes more smoothly...tell her its alright to feel awkward about their bodies because it is a very awkward time for girls...when i was little i knew about periods but not what they looked like really...a GREAT book for puberty is GURLS.
Reply:Hate to break it to you but she could start anytime. My daughter just started her period. She turned 10 in July and has a chest bigger than some adult women.

Definately discuss how things will change with her before it sneaks up on you. She should also know about the birds and the bees. It isn't unheard of an 11-13 yr old getting pregnant.

Education is your best defense.
Reply:I started at 10 in between 5th and 6th grade. The school did a sx ed class for us and explained to us about periods and pads and stuff and gave us sample packs of them. I never told my mom when I got it and she only found out months later when I had a blowout.

So I would check maybe amazon or barnes and noble and find some easy books about it and make sure she is aware and make sure she knows that you are there to talk to - I was too embarassed when I was a kid to rbing it up and my mom never mentioned it noce - she figured I had 3 older sisters that I should already know. I knew, but I still would ahve liked to ask questions.

And some kids don't start til they are like 15 or even 16 but kids nowadays are starting earlier and earlier so best to be prepared. My older sister started when she was in 4th grade - only girl in class who needed a purse cause back then we didn't ahve always pads - just those giant grandma pads..lol :)
Reply:It'll come soon enough. Then it'll be door slamming and ihateyouihateyouihateyou and boys and acne and hormones and all that horribleness that comes with being a teenager.

Am surprised she's shown no curiosity about periods but don't depend on the school to give her the facts - if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Buy her a copy of 'Are You There God; It's Me Margaret' - I read it at about her age and although it's a little bit outdated by now (sanitary belts!) it might help her understand what all the fuss is about.

And buy her a deodorant - you don't want her getting picked on for being the only one without one, even if she doesn't have bo yet. And make sure it's a fashionable brand. When I was in school I can remember this being veeeeery important.

They grow up so fast.... ah.
Reply:Just start being open about what will happen to her.

Buy her deodorants now so she can get used to them- just get the unscented ones:)
Reply:could be 9 could be 14

is there any reason you want it to start now??

theres no rush.
Reply:Depends on the kid...I didn't start until I was almost 13...If she reaches age 14 or 15 and still you haven't notice anything happen, you might take her to a doctor, and makes sure everything is okie day!!!
Reply:I don't think you should push it. You can warn her (you have done?) about not worrying, but to tell you when she starts bleeding. Then you can do more detail.
Reply:I started at nine but I know a girl who didn't start until 16, it's all very individual but you are doing the right thing telling her now that way she won't be scared if her periods start and she doesn't know what it is. Just explain that it's all normal and just means she is growing up (when the time comes of course) also don't seem embarrassed when you tell her or she will feel it's something to be ashamed of, just tell her as if you were telling her about your day, be casual about it and let her ask questions let her know it's normal and while she shouldn't feel embarrassed most people like to keep it private but that she can always come to you and ask questions and it will stay between the two of you. Read a parenting book/school age biology book to find age appropriate info to give her so she isn't overwhelmed, good luck and it will all work itself out when the time is right.
Reply:From what I have heard, somewhere between 9 and 14 on the average but most girls I know, it was around 10 -11 years old. I suggest getting her a book on the topic.
Reply:Well, I'm 22, I started @ 11. My mother tried telling me about it at age 9, I had no earthly idea either.IT IS DEFINANTLY TIME!! It would be embarassing if she started one day at school, and even worse if she didn't know what was going on. There are usually some little books that you can get at a local health center, that are geared toward telling girls at early ages what they should begin to expect.

You may also want a female relative or a friend to kind of talk to her about it, she may feel more comfortable talking to it with them. I hated when my father talked to me about anything dealing w/the human reproductive sys. (ie, birds %26amp; bees, periods, PMS, etc...)
Reply:I think now is a good time to start explaining what will end up happening to her body. She's going to start growing boobs, and getting hair, and she'll get her period at some point. I know you want her to be innocent, but I think 10 is old enough for her to understand the birds and the bees. Kids her age are probably already going through the changes...I wouldn't want to leave your daughter out of the loop. I learned pretty early, I had my first training bra at 8, and got my period when when I was 9 (isn't that the worst!).
Reply:talk to your daughter when she is alone tell her about becoming a teenager
Reply:IM 13.. AND I JUST STARTED GETTING THEM. JUST GIVE HER TIME. SHELL UNDERSTAND. MAYBE SHES DOING LIEK I DID AND PAYING DUMB. 10 IS STILL KINDA YOUNG. DONT WORRY TOO UCH
Reply:It's could be any age from 9 upwards.

Really all you can do,is keep on in forcing the fact that her body is changing, and that you're not trying to embarrass your daughter about having her periods.

You'll notice a lot of changes, mainly mood swings. These get really bad before she'll actually start her period,so beware and be prepared for her flying of the handle at the slightest thing.

Encourage her to be open to how she's feeling, and the both of you can work it out together.
Reply:Hiya, I was 10 when I started my periods, My Mum was prepared because she started hers at 9, my Mum got me some leaflets but I remember just shoving them in my drawer and getting embarrased when she talked about them! When they started not long after my Mum gave me the leaflets, I was straight back into that drawer getting them out and read them cover to cover! My only daughter has just turned 8 so I am debating whether or not to tell her about periods just yet, its just because of the young age that me and my Mum were when we started! you just do what you thinks best, at the end of the day you know your daughter best!! Good luck and look out for books or leaflets on Periods and Puberty, ask library, clinic or even school nurse at your daughters school! XX
Reply:She looks innocent as a daisy, yes, but things can easily happen to innocent kids, and they never show it, because at the time, it isn't that big of a deal.

Give her time. When she looks moody or other signs, talk to her about it again.
Reply:well it depends. i am a 12 year old girl and i got mine a few months ago... it varies from about 9 - 15. dont be worried. some people are early and some people are later. i have a friend who got hers a 9!
Reply:I must say that i am a bit surprised that she did not know about the monthly cycle as they have classes on such things and now days youngsters seem to know so much more than we did at their age.

My mum was no good at all about telling us anything except we were born under a gooseberry bush or the stork bought babies what a laugh.

The person who we could all talk to was my grandmother so perhaps she would be better off talking to her grandmother as they seem to handle allsorts without feeling uncomfortable.

I was 11 and if your daughter is now 12 it would be much better for her if you could see that she knows what to expect.
Reply:Let her be a child. It's nice to know that there are kids out there who ARE still innocent- You've tried to talk to her; now, if she does get a period she'll think.."ooooh THAT"S what mum was on about!!" Anyway, her girlfriends will fill her in-whether you want them to or not! Just make it easy for her to talk to you- open up those chances, ask who wears deodorant in her class-she might want to start- that in itself is a HUGE thing for 10yr olds (just ask my son!!)It's all about the brand...or the roll on...or the spray...Make it a topic that is fun for mum and daughter talk about-maybe invlove her in some of your own rituals EG: get her to put away your own pads/tampons; she'll want to know what they're for. Let her try you deo, she'll feel like she is closer to you cause it's a girly thing- But don't do it until YOU are ready for that sweet little girl to grow up.......Mine (7) asked me 3 days ago where babies come from....we were out in the paddock checking our calving heifers- one happened to be smack in the middle of birth- so we sat there and watched---BEST ANSWER to that question!!! She's seen the stallion serving the mares before, so she knows how becoming pregnant works (for the animals, anyway....i think that is enough detail!) She just was wanting to know how they actually COME OUT....Thats one thing about a farm!!!
Reply:at this point she should have learned sexual education in school by now if not then its about time dont you think
Reply:Please tell her about periods before she gets them. A freind of mine got her first al school and didn't know a thing. Thought she was dying.
Reply:my daughter was 10 but i was 16 different for all ,your daughter probably knows more than shes letting on my daughter was very open and now fourteen and still fine with it all

Where does the saying "whoops a daisy" come from?

The first use of "whoops-a-daisy" per se is around 1925, in a New Yorker cartoon. It's an expression of surprise or dismay, specifically upon discovering one's own error. The modern-day equivalent would be "D'oh!", I'm afraid, which is much less expressive. The term was shortened to "whoops" by 1937, and appears in that form in a letter by Ezra Pound, no less. One assumes that it was related to the expression "to whoop," as in giving "whoops of joy." That usage goes back to the early 1600s.

Where does the saying "whoops a daisy" come from?
Actually it's 'oops a daisy' which is an expression that came from the 1920's. The word 'daisy'refers to yourself and is just a slogan.eg; oops a daisy= up you get. Have you heard of this song and dance.

Hands-knees and bumps-a daisy.
Reply:Making daisy chains, when they broke!
Reply:Dates back to the time of the plaque when children used to sing ring a ring roses a pocketful of posies (daisy) which they threw to ground to ward off the evils spirits of the plaque.

When they dropped the daisies by mistake they would shout 'Whoops a daisy'......No don't believe me well I think you'll find an element of truth in my answer.

However, I'm sure there will be those who will be spot on with their answer. Though you can't blame a girl for trying can you?
Reply:just checked 'urban dictionary' but only the definitions are used and not the origin so no idea sorry
Reply:When your small child trips over you may want to distract them from the fact that they fell over by drawing their attention to something else. By pointing out a daisy or anything you can distract them!

If you distract them quickly they will forget they fell and also forget to cry!
Reply:This is what Eric Partridge says about "oops-a-daisy!" in "A Dictionary of Catch Phrases American and British":

A consolatory cliche, rather than a catch phrase, uttered as one picks up a child that has fallen: late (?mid) C19-20. A baby-talk alteration of "up-a-daisy" or "upsadaisy." See also "upsy daisy!"

And this is what he says about "upsy daisy!":

This is mentioned only because several respected scholars have urged its inclusion. But obviously it doesn't even begin to be a catch phrase.

(Would that decisions about what is and is not a catch phrase came so easily to the rest of us. See "one for the yobs," below.)

Webster's Unabridged (1934) gives "upsy daisy" as a variant of "up-a-daisy" but doesn't say where the latter came from.
Reply:maybe british
Reply:The first use of "whoops-a-daisy" per se is around 1925, in a New Yorker cartoon.

Earlier usage of "whoop" as a verb ("the falconer whoops his hawks") is found in the early 1400s. To cry whoop during a hunt was to indicate that the game was dead. And whoop was very quickly associated with other phrases, such as "Whope! who!" (1450) and "Whoop diddle" (1596.) The use of "whoop" or "whup" as an exclamation of surprise or derision appears in 1568.

Whoop appears in other slang, as to whoop it up (meaning to have a riotous time, to live it up) from 1884. "Making whoopee" arose in the US around 1927. For you Brits, the term "whoopsie" is apparently a child's word for excrement. Making whoopie, making whoopsie--be careful with your phraseology, all you transatlantic couples. Things could go really wrong.
Reply:I must admit, I found a much earlier first appearance of this expression. 1711 in "Swift’s Journal to Stella", according to the link.

It is just a nonsensical expression of surprise unfortunately, how dull!

*edit* - does just copying chunks of text from a website constitute an answer? Apparantly so, it seems.

Vera Wang Princess or Marc Jacobs Daisy?

Help me!! Which one do I buy? What they smell like, and how long they last would be great!

Vera Wang Princess or Marc Jacobs Daisy?
Daisy will be the next perfume I buy - I tried a sample of it that came in a Macys ad and I thought it was great - very light and a bit fruity. You can sample it at Macys, and I sprayed it at Ulta - and I'm sure Sephora probably carries it too, since they have everything. It lasted until I took my shower - the smell was so nice - and my niece liked it too. Sorry, I don't know anything about Princess, but I'm sure its nice because everything Vera Wang does is great!
