In the movie" sweet home alabama", diane keaton called reese witherspoon "daisy mae"?
Daisy Mae is Li'l Abner's Girl, and she was always chasing after him, trying to get her to marry him.

I think it is an insult about Reese's intentions
Reply:it is a name, probably a nickname in this case
Reply:Its like redneck for a girl!
Reply:a girl name for a hillbilly.
Reply:Daisy Mae was a character in a comic strip. A hillbilly girl.
Reply:i dont know
Reply:Daisy Mae Yoakum from "Lil Abner" cartoon. Basically calling her a hick or a hillbilly. Sure you're not thinking of Candace Bergen?
Reply:it was a reference to a comic strip girlfriend as mentioned above and not a compliment
Reply:It was Candice Bergen and meant to indicate she's a dumb country girl.

Candice Bergen, playing her prospective mother-in-law, calls her a ''psychotic Daisy Mae.'' Melanie's mother (Mary Kay Place) listens to her daughter for a minute and then says with a laugh: ''Listen to that accent. She sounds like a --'' (she gasps) ''-- Yankee!'' No one has ever called me Daisy Mae to my face, although I did have a friend from Rhode Island who insisted on addressing me as Scarlett, but I do sound hopelessly pretentious to my family down South just because I don't pronounce ''own'' and ''on'' the same way.
Reply:It wasn't Diane Keaton it was Candice Bergen. She probably meant she was a small town person.
