My friend and I go to a lake everyday after school and these two mallard ducks are always there. We feed then bread everyday :) We have named then Daisy * since we know its a girl and boy because of the coloring* and Donald. We would like to know if they remember us fro mthe day before. Any other info on mallard ducks would be nice as well.
How long is a ducks memory span?
I'm sure they could remember who you are if they see you often enough!
I had pet ducks for a while, and they certainly knew who I was, although I raised them. But they seemed to recognize my sister, who they did not know as long as they knew me. So it's certainly possible.
However, I have to tell you that you should NOT feed them bread, ever. It's very bad for them. Honestly, you shouldn't feed wild ducks anything, because it can really damage their ability to survive. If you feel like you have to feed them something, make it cracked corn or vegetables.
Reply:well ducks have a great memory if u think about it.
they have to remember where to fly during migration so therefore they have amazing longterm memory. short term, however i do not kno . its prolly decent enough. yes i kno it says turtle but it is duck info so i hope this helps llo.
Reply:about two quacks
Reply:I would say really long because they mate 4 life!
Reply:Ducks have a pretty good long term memory. Their short term isn't as good but still not bad. Ducks can recognize individual people. So yes if they see you over an extended period of time they will remember who you are and if you feed them. Not all ducks mate for life. As a matter none really do. Some species or breeds do pair bond and will remain bonded as long as both are alive. In the event one dies the other will try to find a new mate. Domestic breeds of ducks seldom ever pair bond and Mallards do not.
In my pic is a bonded pair of our mandarin ducks. If one should die the other would try to find a new partner.
